Joe was born in Bodmen in 1945 to Jean and Yvonne Schmitt. He spent most of his years growing up in Domremy. He started working as a car salesman at Peters Chev Olds and continued selling cards for 17 ½ years and during that time he also owned the Hoey Hotel. After his career in car sales and selling the hotel he finished his working career with PA Janitorial and then District Manager of CFIB. Joe loved being surrounded by family and friends. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and playing cards. Joe was a part of many organizations. He was peer support with the Canadian Cancer Society, Catholic Family Services, St. Mary's Church, C.O.P.P. and helping people in the community. Joe was grateful for the wonderful health care he received during his 8 year battle with cancer. Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife Marj of Emma Lake, SK; his children Sharon (Brent) Hopkins & their children Bennett & Josh of Prince Albert, SK; Joe Jr. Schmitt & his daughter Samantha of Edmonton, AB; Dean Schmitt of Calgary, AB; Debbie (Roy) Parenteau of Prince Albert, SK & their children Jeff (Christie) of Canmore, AB; Kristin (Mitch) of Prince Albert, SK and Melissa of Prince Albert, SK; his sister Lorraine (Gerald) Boyer of Prince Albert, SK; his brother Charlie Schmitt of Dryden, ON; his sisters-in-laws Audrey Madsen of Prince Albert, SK, Gwen (Gord) Bear of Christopher Lake, SK; Selma Bear of Prince Albert, SK; Pat (Paul) Chuey of Prince Albert, SK, Dale (Bob) Patterson of Tisdale, SK and Deanna (Don) Falkner of Tisdale, SK; his brother-in-law Leroy (Dorthy) Bader of Tisdale, SK; the mother of his children Lettia Springer; his aunts Helene Jansen of Salmon Arm, BC and Jeannette Romaniuk of Edmonton, AB; his uncle Raymond Gaumond of Squamish, BC and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and special friend Toby. He was predeceased by his parents Jean and Yvonne Schmitt; his brother Louis Schmitt; his sister-in-law Kit Schmitt; his nephew Dennis Boyer; his grandparents Noel and Ernestine Gaumond, Charlie and Marie Schmitt; his in-laws Selma and Richard Bader; his brother-in-law Daryl Madsen and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 with Margaret Ferchuk officiating. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2010 with Celebrants Reverend Father Matthew Nguyen and Bishop Blaise Morand. Both services will be held at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 260 - 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donation can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 54 - 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
