We, the family of Allister 'Allie' Beaton Jr. regret to announce his passing after a prolonged illness.
Allie was the son of Allister 'Bo' and Mae (Binns) Beaton of Westmount.
Allie was a former employee of Cape Breton Auto Radiator and for a number of years operated his own business under the name of A + N Engine in Bras d'Or and later in Sydney. In early 2004, Allie and his family relocated to Richmond, Va., where they have resided since.
In addition to his parents, Allie is survived by his wife, Daphne (Grinstead) and his daughter, Meaghan. He is also survived by a brother, Ed (Jan); sisters, Nancy, Halifax, Terry Chasse, Mary Jane (Daniel) Morrison; and grandmother, Jane Coady.
He was predeceased by a brother, Paul in 2008.
Allie was a man of strong opinions, firmly held convictions and undefeatable courage. In the face of the worst that life can deliver, he referred to himself as the luckiest man alive. He found great strength and perseverance in the love and support of his friends and family, especially Daphne and special friends, Michael Worobel and Tony.
A memorial service celebrating Al's life will be held Saturday, July 31, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
In lieu of flowers, Al has requested that donations be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Cancer Centre.
