O'Brien, Marjorie A. - 93, Truro. On Wednesday, July 28, 2010 heaven celebrated the arrival of wife, Mum, Nana, sister, aunt and friend when Marjorie passed away peacefully at Vimy Court Enhanced Care with daughter, Sherry at her side. Marjorie was born in Halifax, eldest daughter of the late Clarence and Elsie MacDonald (Wild), on November 8, 1916. Marjorie survived the Halifax Explosion and still bore the scars on her head where as a toddler the window crashed in over the crib. She loved all sports and indeed played softball and ice hockey for Simpsons where she modeled as well as worked in the shoe dept. She was a constant at the Jubilee Boat House, a rower, swimmer and stunning diver. She participated in synchronized swimming and skating as well as chorus line dancing and regular dance in which she excelled. The special place for us all was Malagash where we had a cottage and she taught everyone how to swim, where extended family and friends were held close to her heart and she lived to teach us that animals had feelings and should be loved as well. In 1939, she wed Daniel Turner O'Brien and after the war he brought her to Truro. Theirs was a marriage you witnessed in the movies with a unique and powerful bond. In Truro, she was an active member of the UCW Unit B, First United Church, lifelong member Isgonish Chapter IODE, lifelong member Truro Ladies Curling Club and in later years took up golf at Truro Golf Club and lawn bowling having been part of the Truro Bowling League as well. Marjorie was predeceased by her loving husband, Turner; her beloved son, Kenneth (Marg); sister, Blanche (Mike) Trenaman, Halifax; brother, Steve (Jean) MacDonald, Enfield; step-siblings, Joey, Edith, George, Frank, Ethel and Dorothy Wild. Mom will be sadly and forever missed by daughters, Shannon (Lawrence) Stephens, Sherry (Brian) )O'Brien-Stevens; daughter-in-law, Marg (Kennie); step-siblings, Hilda (Roy) Gilkie, Halifax, Bill (Edna) Wild, B.C., Reg (Betty) Wild, Ottawa; grandchildren, Scott (Dana) O'Brien, Wanda (Dean) Pawulski, Rod (Jennifer) O'Brien, Kimber Dawn O'Brien, Darryl (Tanya) Stephens, Kevin (Charlene) Stephens; all her great-grandchildren who number eleven and her nieces and nephews. In the last few years Marjorie and Leslie Karagianis at Parkland Estates were constant support and company for each other and there too leaves a special void with her passing. The family wish to thank the staff at Colchester Regional Hospital 4-East for months of support and Vimy Court for her final days and Dr. Frank Slipp and especially Les for helping Sherry with daily visits in hospital for months and nephew Bruce for those early morning visits. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 10 from 1:00 until time of the celebration of Marjorie's life at 2:00 pm in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro with Rev. David MacNaughton officiating. Private Interment in Robie Street Cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
