John Burbine
LOWER COVE John Alexander Burbine, one of the oldest senior members of the Joggins/River Hebert area, passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Tuesday, August 17, 2010 in his 101 st year.
Born in Lower Cove, he was a son of the late Frank and Sarah (Arseneau) Burbine.
A farmer and coal miner, Alex lived a quiet life in Lower Cove, surviving all his close family members. A community man, he was much loved by everyone who knew him, and will be deeply missed by his friends. Alex saw many changes in his Century in Lower Cove, remembering 2 world wars, the boom and bust years in the area and the transition from horses and trains to automobiles and airplanes. Over the years he lost many friends and neighbors to coal mine tragedies and the wars. Alex retained his joy for life, his even temperament and wit to the end. He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Alex's remains have been entrusted into the care of the Furlong Jones Funeral Home, River Hebert from where visitation will be held Thursday from 7 to 9 pm, when the community will have an opportunity to pay their respects to this centenarian. Funeral mass will be held in the St. Paul the Apostle Roman Catholic Church, River Hebert on Friday, August 20, 2010 at 10:30 am. Following cremation burial will be held in the St. Denis Church Cemetery, Minudie. www.furlongjones.ca
