Goreham, Rodney Shand "Puggy" - 88, formerly of Windermere, Kings County, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2010 in the Veteran's Unit of Fisherman's Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg. Born in Woods Harbour, Shelburne County, he was a son of the late Edward and Margaret (Shand) Goreham. He was a veteran of the Second World War, having served overseas as a pilot with the R.C.A.F. While on a mission over Germany, his plane was shot down and he was captured as a prisoner of war. Following the war, he was employed as a flight instructor in Massachusetts for over 50 years. He later retired to Windermere where he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Ortona Branch No. 69, Berwick. He is survived by seven daughters, Terry (Harry) Wheeler, Beverly (Frank) Stoughton, Tina (Steve) Gauthier and Darla Koleros, all from the United States; Janice (Richard) Bower, Cheryl Benjamin and Holly (Marty) Beattie, all of Nova Scotia; a son, Chris (Donalda) Benjamin, Nova Scotia; 18 grandchildren, Mikey, Rick, Brian, Luke, Tyler, Mark, Jodi, Angelo, Cheri, Kayla, Bekki, Jessica, Jonathan, Hannah, Siena, Neil, Drew and Mackenzie; 13 great grandchildren; many beloved nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He was predeceased by his first wife, Marie (Lewis) Goreham and his second wife, Jean (Stanley) Goreham; a daughter, Margaret Goreham; numerous brothers and sisters. Visitation was held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 19, 2010 in Calvary Baptist Church, Woods Harbour, Reverend Phil Williams officiating. Burial took place in the Greenwood Cemetery, Woods Harbour. A reception followed in the church hall. Donations in memory may be made to the Veteran's Unit of Fisherman's Memorial Hospital.
