LYON, Myrtle Amelia (Stoddard), 93, of Falmouth and Dykeland Lodge, Windsor. With hearts full of gratitude for the many years we were allowed to have her; we her family announce that God has called her home. She went to sleep in the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, on Friday, July 9, 2010, with her family all around her. Mom was born on February 2, 1917, in Falmouth Valley, she was the second daughter of the late John "Starr" Stoddard and Mary Jane (Patterson) Stoddard. Except for the last three years, she lived all her life in Falmouth. She married Dad (Medford George Lyon), on November 25, 1936, and they shared 69 years together, before he passed away in 2005. Mom loved us all the same, but we all felt we were 'very special'. She asked nothing more of any of us than to be the best we could. We were allowed to make mistakes, but we were expected to learn from them and carry on, and she would say, "It will be all right". She loved us for ourselves, in spite of ourselves. She was lovingly called, Mum, Grammie and Aunt, not only by her family, but by our friends and their children as well. She worked hard all her life, cooking, sewing and caring for all. She had a special talent for drawing, painting and other crafts, but had little time to do them. She is and was the "Glue" that holds us all together and she wants us to "always be family". She enjoyed the little things in life and could find interesting things all around her, that we would walk by without noticing. In later years, she enjoyed travelling and going camping with Dad, where she was always meeting new people. She could talk to all ages. She was a wealth of information, and passionately interested in family history. Mom never had much in material things, but she was a millionaire in family and friends. She leaves to celebrate the love we share; her son, Stewart (Liz), Upper Falmouth; daughters, Ruth (Jim) Wile, Falmouth; Marion Quinn, Mt. Denson; Annie (Don) Wilson, Mt. Denson; Judy (Kenny) Davison, Gaspereau; Pat (Will) Thomas, Hantsport; 19 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandson; her only surviving brother, Perley (Minnie) Stoddard, Falmouth; numerous nieces and nephews; her step mother, Murial Benedict and her family. Besides her parents and husband, Medford, she was predeceased by her infant son, John Starr (Judy's twin); son-in-law, Finlay Quinn; sister, Madelean (Meb) Swinamer; brother, George (Lydia) Stoddard. A graveside service was held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the Centre Falmouth Cemetery, Town Road, Falmouth, Pastor Craig Faulkner officiated. Donations in memory of Myrtle, may be made to the Dykeland Lodge, Windsor or to a charity of ones choice. To sign the book of condolence, Click on "Obituaries" at, www.lindsaysfuneralhome.com
