Age 92, passed away peacefully July 27, 2010, at Lakewood Continuing Care Center, Waterville, ME.
He was born in Melville, P.E.I., Sept. 5, 1917, the son of Hector D. and Laura B. (MacWilliams) Gillis. He worked the family farm in Melville until 1961 when he sold the farm and moved his family to Maine.
Upon his retirement he and his wife Alice moved to Florida where he remained active performing maintenance at Sebring Village Park. He and Alice spent summers at Pine Hills RV Park in P.E.I. He was a member of the St. John's Presbyterian Church in Belfast, P.E.I., and later transferred his membership to the First Presbyterian Church of Sebring, FL.
Preston is survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice (Ross) Gillis, Waterville, ME; two sons, Wayne (Barbara), Fairfield, ME; and John (Debbie), Woodinville, WA; a sister, Margaret Ling (Elmer), Parrsboro, N.S.; brother-in-law, Howard Ross (Kaye), P.E.I.; sister-in-law, Mildred Casey (Al), N.S.; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Predeceased by sister, Flora Morrison (Ernie) and daughter, Brenda Gard (Bobby).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. John's Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund.
A memorial service and burial will be held at St. John's Presbyterian Church, Belfast, P.E.I., at 3 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010.
