Passed in: Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: May 31st, 2009

It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our dad, John Hector Young on Sunday, May 31, 2009, at the Northside General Hospital, North Sydney.
Dad was born in Sydney Mines on Aug. 26, 1919, the eldest son of the late John D. and Catherine (MacLean) Young of Sydney Mines.
Dad started his career with Irving Oil and Blue Home Gas, retiring in 1984 as service manager with Superior Propane.
He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the Canadian Army as a gunner and met our mother, Vera Walker while stationed in Cranberry. She was the love of his life and he often told the story of their courtship and marriage. Mom passed away in 2002 but Dad continued to remember her as the most beautiful woman he’d ever known. Dad was a simple man to whom family was everything, as we well know.
John is survived by his sons, Allan (Ronelda), Sydney River, Gregory (Betty), Simcoe, Ont., and Donald (Lorraine), St. Albert, Alta.; and dearly loved by grandchildren, Scott (Amanda), Melissa, Laurie (Kerry) Yates, Keressa (George) Dunphy, Kyle and Shana as well as great-grandchildren, Kieran and Abbey Yates, Bennett and Gillian Dunphy.
He is also survived by his brother, David (Irene), Sydney Mines; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife, the former Vera Walker, brother, Fred, sisters Jennie, Eileen, Eva, Freda (Joe) Livingston and June (Malcolm) MacMullin.
The late John Young will have visitation Wednesday, June 3, 2009, from 7-9 p.m. in the Francis Funeral Home, Main Street, Sydney Mines.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Trinity Anglican Church, with Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. Burial to follow in Trinity Anglican Cemetery, Tobin Road, Sydney Mines.
Memorial donations may be made to the Trinity Anglican Church Cemetery Fund.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Francis Funeral Home.
“May God keep you in his loving embrace until we meet again, Dad.”
