WILLIAM (BILL) EMIL BUCSIS
JULY 15th, 1932 - SEPTEMBER 22nd, 2010
Bill passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010 at the age of 78 with his wife, Vi and son, Mark by his side. He is survived by his wife, Viola (Bittner) of 56 years; son, Mark (Vicki) and grandchildren, Kate and Connor of Saskatoon; and son, Wayde and grandchildren, Alex and Taylor, and the children's mother, Tonje of Trondheim, Norway, his brother Ray of Moose Jaw, Harold (Eileen) of Vernon, B.C., sister, Lorraine Dawson of Grand Forks, B.C.; brother-in-law, Les Bittner (Lyn) of Ottawa; sister-in-law, Thelma (Ken Kulrich) of Saskatoon and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Julius and Mary (Andre) Bucsis; brothers-in-law, Lloyd Dawson and Melvyn Bittner and sister-in-law, Anne Bucsis. Bill grew up on the family farm at Waldron SK and attended high school in Melville SK. In 1952 he attended Teachers' College in Saskatoon where he met his wife Vi. After their marriage in 1954, Bill continued to improve his qualifications. He received his B.A. and B.Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan. He began his 35 years of work with the Department of Indian Affairs as a classroom teacher at File Hills, and Carry the Kettle followed by Sr. Teacher/Principal in Prince Albert, to Student Advisor/Counselor, A/Superintendent of the Northern half of Saskatchewan, to finally Supt. of Education for the Shellbrook Agency. He has proudly followed the development of former students. Bill had many interests that included fishing with his buddies, coin collecting and construction. However, his favorite time was spent at the cottage "Pair 'O Dice" at Okema Beach on Emma Lake. There he could putter and renovate to his heart's content and entertain friends. When Bill got the BBQ going, no one ever went away hungry. After retirement, Bill and Vi spent 8 winters in Mesa, Arizona enjoying park living and making new friends. Fourteen years ago Bill suffered a massive stroke and these last years have been a struggle to maintain some quality of life. The Retread and Speech programs have been invaluable. He was so happy to be able to remain at home. Bill was an ardent supporter of the Roughriders over the last 50 years. He always watched the Blue Jays and forever remained loyal to the Maple Leafs. We wish to sincerely thank the following for the quality care extended to Bill and his family over his final days: Dr. Diane Bekolay, Saskatoon Fire Dept., M.D. Ambulance attendants, ER staff at RUH, Internal Medicine staff, resident Neurologist, nurses and all staff on Unit 2, 6200. A special thank you to Anglican Chaplain Karen for the visits, prayers and the rites of the Anglican Communion provided for Bill and family members. There will be no memorial service held at this time. Memorials in Bill's memory may be made to Saskatoon Stroke and Recovery Association, 50 Robinson Cresc.
