1916 - 2010- Completed her life's journey on October 5, 2010, at St. Lukes Home, where she resided the last four years of her life. She was a former resident of St. Vincent's, S.M.B., where she taught school for several years and worked as a postmistress for 33 years. Predeceased by her husband Mike (1985), son-in-law George Gibbons (2001), parents Joseph and Mary Ryan, brothers: Frank (Theresa) and Leo; sisters: Bessie Barton (Vince), Alice, Ellen, Genevieve, Mary and Sr. Josephine (Mercy Sister). Leaving to mourn with loving memories are daughters Alice Gibbons, St. John's, Marion Fagan, Riverhead and son Bernard Tobin (Paula) Ontario, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Irene enjoyed the love of her eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. As well, a heartfelt thank you to her wonderful caregivers at St. Luke's. Resting at Carnell's Funeral Home, 329 Freshwater Road, on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 from 2 - 4 p.m.; 7 - 9 p.m., then at Fr. Battcock Memorial Chapel, St. Vincent's, on Thursday, October 7, from 2 - 4 p.m.; 7 - 9.p.m. and on Friday, October 8, beginning at 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial to be held at Sacred Heart Church, St. Vincent's, on Friday at 1 p.m. Burial to follow.
