Hunter, James 'Jim' Norman
1934 - 2010
James Norman Hunter, 75, passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on October 6, 2010. Born in Springhill, Jim was a son of the late Frank and Esther (Coone) Hunter.
Jim was an educator, graduating from Teacher's College in 1955. He taught in Springhill, Oxford and Amherst before becoming principal of Acadia Street School. Following that, he was principal of West Highland School, R.B. Dickey Elementary School and Brookdale School.
Jim had a great love for the outdoors, that included his camp, fishing, hunting and four-wheeling. He enjoyed camping at the Hidden Hilltop Campground with his many friends. Jim always looked forward to family gatherings, and the good times and laughs they shared together.
He will be sadly missed by his wife of 53 years, Jeanette (nee Mackay); son Mike (Marsha) of Amherst; daughters, Cheryl (Richard) Magee of Moncton, Sandra (Barry) Guilderson of Amherst and Sherry (Stan) Cormier of Amherst; three grandchildren, Mike, Terry, and Ashton; and a great granddaughter, Madison; sister, Carol of BC; and close family friend, Cathy Hunter of Lorneville.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by a brother, Bruce.
As per the request of the family, there will be no visitation. A private family service will be held and Jim will be laid to rest in the Amherst Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777)
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations may be made to the Amherst Wesleyan Church or the Kidney Foundation.
