The death of Joseph Albert Gilles Bégin husband of Rita (Matheson) Bégin of Bartibog, NB, occurred at his residence on Sunday, October 24, 2010 at the age of 77. Born in Quebec City, PQ, he was the son of the late Louis-Philippe and Yvonne (Bernier) Bégin. Gil was a member of St. Peter and St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Bartibog and a retired Lieutenant-Colonel from the Canadian Forces, serving in Canada, Europe and the United States. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 10. Besides his wife: Rita, Gil is survived by: two daughters: Suzan Bégin of Miramichi, NB; Bridgette Lavoie (Don) of Williamstown, NB; four sons: Wayne of Calgary, AB; Pierre of Victoria, BC; Paul (Susan) of Elmvale, ON; Shane (Nansi Laing) of San Diego, California; one sister: Claire Gingras (Lucien) of Quebec City, PQ; two brothers: Louis-Philippe of Montreal, PQ; Andre of Quebec City, PQ; twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Gil is predeceased by: one brother: Jean-Yves and sister in law: Wyn.
The family will receive visitors at Bell's Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 27, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from St. Peter & St. Paul Roman Catholic Church, Bartibog on Thursday at 10 AM with Father Allison Mahoney officiating. Burial will take place in St. Peter & St. Paul Roman Catholic Cemetery. In Gil's memory a donation may be made to the Parkinson's Society or St. Peter & St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.
