SCHLEMKO - Donald Richard Schlemko of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and formerly of the Scotsguard district passed away with his loving family by his side at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current on Friday, October 22, 2010. Donnie was born in Scotsguard on January 8, 1933. He married Dorothy Sanders on February 8, 1961 at the Scotsguard United Church. He took all of his schooling in Scotsguard and always told his kids and grandkids that he walked to school everyday and it was up hill both ways. The Schlemko boys played hockey and Donnie was their goalie for the Scotsguard Aces. He served on the School Board, Sask Wheat Pool Committee, and the Scotsguard fire brigade and was Fire Chief. His hobby was collecting coins and he started each of his grandchildren with a starter kit. He was predeceased by his father Harry (1955), his mother Doris (1997), sister Anne Malick (2007), brothers Denis (1995), Gabriel (1941), Harry (1985), Ernie (1987), Richard (1936), father-in-law Bill Sanders (1988), morther-in-law Ruby Sanders (1969), brothers-in-law Jack Logan (1981), Clayton Sanders (1992), Leo Feist (1995), Mero Malick (2005), Art Buzash (2010), sisters-in-law Margaret Schlemko (1995), Lorraine Schlemko (1979), Helen Schlemko (2010), Grace Sanders-Buzash (1998) and Marjorie Henrion (2005). He is survived by his wife and best friend Dorothy; son Richard of the Instow district and family Kally Schlemko of Saskatoon and Kevin Schlemko of the Instow district; daughter Donna (Guy Buck) and family, Jenna (Michael Goodberry) and great grandson Gradon Goodberry, Brent, Brandon (Jessica) all of Medicine Hat; Dennis (Cary) and family, Jared and Laken Schlemko of Medicine Hat; David (Maureen) and family, Delaney and Joel Schlemko of Red Deer, his sister Jennie Logan of Edmonton; brother Ed Schlemko of Onaway, AB, sister-in-law Hazel Feist of Lloydminster and brother-in-law John Henrion of Shaunavon. A funeral service of remembrance was held at the Legion Hall in Shaunavon on Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Funeral Celebrant Bernadette Schneider officiating. The pianist was Lynn Wilson and the soloist was Michael Goodberry. The eulogy was presented by Donald's long time friend Stan Turek. Granddaughters Laken Schlemko and Delaney Schlemko read a poem about their Grandpa, and scripture readers were Granddaughters Jenna Goodberry and Kally Schlemko. Pallbearers were grandsons Brent Buck, Brandon Buck, Kevin Schlemko, Jared Schlemko and granddaughters Jenna Goodberry and Kally Schlemko. Honorary Pallbearers were all who shared in his life.
