Edwin Sveinson
Mr. Ed Sveinson of Grand Manan Island died peacefully on October 29, 2010 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Ed was born June 8th 1941 in Baldur Manitoba. He was very proud of his Icelandic heritage and his becoming a third generation blacksmith. Ed loved outdoor activities, listening and playing music, especially bluegrass music, motorcycles and rode one whenever offered a ride. Ed worked as a blacksmith, apprenticed as an auto body repair man, and a tool nipper in the mines in the Yukon. He returned to school and became a Forest officer in the Yukon. After retirement he came to Grand Manan to be of service to the Baha'i Faith. On Grand Manan he worked in auto body repair at the Nickerson and Connors fish plants and did carpentry until 1989 when he retired a second time for health reasons. In retirement he opened a sharpening business and also made whirligigs. He is survived by his wife Betty (Elizabeth) his two children Svein (Lorianne) Sveinson and Jenny Robicheau. He has four grandchildren Matthew and Jerika Sveinson, Aria and Keagan Robicheau all of Grand Manan. He is also survived by his brother John Allan (Lorna) Sveinson of Winnipeg and a sister Lynda Sveinson living in Mexico. Predeceased by his parents Svein and Alice (Joel) Sveinson.
The funeral service will take place at Ells Funeral Home on Monday, November 1, 2010 at 1:00 pm. The interment will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery, Castalia.
