Douglas Sharpe

PICTOU – Donald Douglas Sharpe, 80, Pictou, passed away on November 8, 2010 in the Aberdeen Hospital.
Born March 17, 1930 in Hopewell, Nova Scotia to the late Fisher and Mary (Kindervater) Sharpe.
Doug was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Pictou. A former member of the choir, Elder of the Church, Board of Managers he was also a member of the Pictou Male Choir. Doug was a former member of Eastern Star I.O.O.F. Lodge #1, where he was a Past Noble Grand and held the office of Secretary for many years. Doug was Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of the Atlantic Provinces. He transferred his membership to Scotia I.O.O.F. Lodge #11, Westville. He was also a former member of the Stewart Encampment and Canton Dryden #2 and was a member of Princess Rebekah Lodge #4, Pictou. Doug was employed by Irving Oil for over 20 years as a Burner Service man. He opened his own business, Sharp Burner Service, which he ran until he retired.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, June (MacKenzie); sons, David (Kim), Caribou Island; Rev. Ronald (Kirsty), Windsor, ON; daughters: Donna (Bruce) Bannerman, MacPhersons Mills; Susan Wright, Shelton CT; Diane (Henry) Lawniczak, Milton ON; sister, Alice Burbidge, Pictou; brother, Bob, Orrillia ON; and sister-in-law, Marilyn, Burlington, ON; grandchildren: Jonathan and Matthew Bannerman, Brandon Sharpe, Nathan and Benjamin Sharpe; several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Alan Wayne in infancy; brothers, Willard, Stanford; and sister, Isabel Carrigan; and son-in-law, David Wright.
His remains are resting at McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou, with visitation Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. An Odd Fellows Memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Funeral at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, Saturday at 11 a.m.
