Gerry Eberhardt (Richard) passed away on Friday November 5, 2010 in White Rock, BC after a brief illness. Gerry was born in Atholville, NB on March 7, 1938, daughter of Emile and Helene (Nellie) Richard. She moved with her family to Newcastle in 1948, attended St. Mary’s Academy and graduated from St. Michael’s High in Chatham in 1956. Gerry began her career in Moncton the same year at Canadian Oil (White Rose Gasoline), then moved to Montreal where she was Executive Secretary to the Vice President of CPR and later secretary to the VP of Molson Breweries. In late 1961 she married George Eberhardt and they had two children, Peter and Erika. Gerry and her family returned to New Brunswick in 1969 settling in Moncton where she resided until 1985, when she moved first to London, Ontario then to the Vancouver, BC area in 1986. The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Vancouver was her first employer on the West Coast, followed by the Semiahmoo House Society until her retirement in 1998.
Since retiring, Gerry had an active and fun time travelling and volunteering in White Rock. She made many trips home to the Miramichi over the years...the last few to help care for her father Emile, who passed away in October 2006 and support her mother, now residing in Shediac, NB. Gerry is survived by her two children Peter of South Surrey, BC and Erika (Doug Biggar) of Lower Coverdale, NB; her mother Helene (Nellie) Richard of Shediac, sisters Irene Skolrood (Wayne) of Ladner, BC and Susan Keats (John) of London, ON, brothers Bernard Richard (Julie) of Miramichi, Paul Richard (Joanne) of Moncton and Pat Richard (Helene) of Fredericton.
At the request of Gerry, no visitation took place. On November 11, 2010 a celebration of Gerry’s life was held for family and friends in White Rock at the Kent St. Activity Center. A memorial service will also be held in Miramichi, NB in the spring of next year. In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made to the Kent St. Activity Center Kitchen Restoration Project, 1475 Kent St., White Rock, BC V4B 5A2.
Funeral arrangements were completed by Personal Alternative Funeral Services, Aldergrove, BC and the Northumberland Funeral Home of Miramichi, NB.
