Frederick Moar

Frederick F. Moar of Miramichi passed away peacefully at Miramichi Regional Hospital on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at the age of 91 with his family by his side. Born in Chatham, He was the son of the late Frederick J. Moar and Dell Forrest. He joined the Canadian Army in April 1940, transferred to the North Shore Regiment and landed as a platoon Commander with “A” company in Normandy, June 6th 1944. He was Colonel of the North Shore Regiment serving in this position until 1995. He was employed by N. B. Power in 1948, retiring in 1983. Fred served as a member of School District 10; Miramichi Agricultural Exhibition Association; Royal Canadian Legion Branch #3 and Knights of Columbus 1219. He was a recipient of the Minister of Veteran’s Affairs Commendation, France’s Legion of Honour and the Order of New Brunswick. He is survived by his son Jim (Peggy) of Miramichi and their children Vanessa (Matt), Brian (Erin) and great-grandchildren; Elliot and Owen Loveless and Samuel Frederick Moar; daughter; Judy (Mike) Nimigon and their son Peter of Fredericton; daughter; Joanie (Bernard) and their children Jillian (Mark), Lauren (Loïc) and Emma. Fred was predeceased by his wife Noreen in 2009, his brothers Don, Ian and Ken and sister Jean Lachambre.
Fred is resting at Maher’s Funeral Home Miramichi on Tuesday, November 16th, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 17th, 2010 at 11am from St Michael’s Basilica with Fr John Fraser officiating. Interment will be in St Michael’s Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations to the Miramichi Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, IWK Children’s Hospital or the memorial of ones choice would be appreciated. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Maher’s Funeral Home Miramichi serving the Miramichi and surrounding area for 100 years. Telephone 773-4321.
