Mrs. Irene (Spitzer), of Hallonquist, SK passed away on November 15, 2010 at the Swift Current Care Centre after a lengthy battle with cancer. Irene is survived by her beloved husband, Clarence, of 61 years; her daughter, Marlene Paulsen, granddaughter Shannon (Mark) Fink, great-grandchildren Skylar and Preston Fink. One son, Milton Paulsen, and a daughter, Tammy (Ken) Deobald, grandson Blake (Erlene) Deobald and granddaughter Brigitte Deobald. Also her sister Florence Marten, Don (Carol) Spitzer, Mabel McLeod (Mel Teulon) and Linda Anderson and sister-in-law Edith Spitzer. She was predeceased by her parents, Albertina and Frederick Spitzer, her brothers Will Spitzer and Walt Spitzer and brother-in-law Len Marten. Irene was born September 2, 1929 on the farm at Cooking Lake, Alberta. The Spitzer family moved to Saskatchewan in 1945. Irene was married to Clarence Paulsen on April 24, 1949 and began farming on the Paulsen homestead in the Hallonquist area. They enjoyed farm life for sixty years and stayed in the homestead house until Irene took ill in the early spring of 2008. Irene was an active farming partner, a proud homemaker and an avid gardner. She loved to cook and bake for family gatherings and always had the coffee pot on for the many coffee breaks with Clarence and the neighbors. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting, knitting and many other crafts. Irene and Clarence loved to travel in their motor home and spent many winters down south. They also made one memorable trip to Alaska one summer. Irene will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. The Memorial Service was held on Friday, November 19, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Parkside Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Bob Cappelle officiating. The interment took place at Mount Pleasant Burial Park in Swift Current, SK. Memorial donations may be made to the Swift Current Care Centre Auxiliary. The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at the Swift Current Care Centre and to Doctor D’Klerlk.
