
Robert Wharton
WHARTON - Robert Joseph Wharton of Swift Current, SK passed away at the Palliser Regional Care Centre on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at the age of 87 years. Robert was born April 1, 1923 on the family farm near Vanguard, SK and attended Vanguard School. He married Joyce Acorn on October 11, 1947 in the Ponteix United Church. Bob was a life-long farmer who had many interests. He enjoyed horses and horseback riding and the lifestyle of the farm. He was involved in the Boy Scouts, was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening (flowers, trees and vegetables), playing cards, horseshoes and maintaining his home. In recent years he enjoyed meeting friends for afternoon coffee. He was a man who lived by the rule "always leave the land in better shape than you found it." Bob leaves to mourn his passing: his loving wife of 63 years Joyce; daughter Arlene Daniel & Murray Myers, of Swift Current, SK; his grandchildren & great grandchildren: Ryan Daniel & Tammie Bowler (Dayton Daniel, Dakota & Bailey Bowler), Weyburn, SK, Chris Daniel & Jen Schultz, Swift Current, SK, Monique & Brandon Talaga (Hannah), Swift Current, SK, Evan Myers & Kayla Kornfeld, Swift Current, SK, Kara Myers & Derek Dubasoff, Medicine Hat, AB; sister Eileen Swaney of Pentiton, BC, niece Karen (Dan) McAfee of Okanagan Falls, BC; nephews Brian Mouland of Swift Current, SK, and Robert Swaney of Sparwood, BC. Bob was predeceased by his father Robert Wharton in 1972, mother Minnell Wharton in 1979, brothers-in-law Ed Swaney in 1977 and Ralph Mouland in 1993, sister Muriel Mouland in 2003 and nephew Greg Mouland in 2010. A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 20, 2010 at 2:00 pm from Grace United Church, Swift Current, SK with Reverend Bonita Chad officiating. The organist was Arlene Olson, eulogist was Don Sayers, ushers were Frank Pribyl and Lyle Burns, and the pallbearers were Barry Peterson, Roy Farnsworth, Bob Burns, Mark Heebner, Gary Gader and Harvey McIntosh. Interment service followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. Those wishing to honor Bob's memory may do so with a donation to the Dr. Noble Irwin Healthcare Foundation or to the Cancer Society of Saskatchewan.
