ANDERSON, Joseph (Joey) Alfred - June 10, 1931 - October 23, 2010. Passed away at Highgate Lodge, Victoria, BC. Born at Dugway, Annapolis County, he was a son of the late Stanley and Eva (Spurr) Anderson. Joey joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served in Germany, England, the former Congo and at bases in Canada and retiring in Victoria, B.C. The youngest of nine, he leaves sister Freeda Fox, Upper Clements and Eileen (Ernest) Leonard of Bridgewater; son Michael (Donna), daughter Nancy (Brian Thorne), grandson Alexander Joseph Anderson and his best friend Dorothy Osberg. He was predeceased by wife Barbara (Nee Green) as well as sisters, Jean Durling, Ellen Porter, Ruby Goucher, Vera Gibson; brothers Lloyd and Lawrence as well as many nieces and nephews. He retired from the University of Victoria and took up the fiddle again 48 years after playing with Annapolis Royal's Jimmy Sanford and his Down Easters. A man of simple tastes and pleasures; he was loved and respected by his family and the bluegrass community. His life was celebrated by family and friends on November 7th at a Legion benefit in Victoria with music and refreshments. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadian Lung Assoc., Royal Canadian Legion or Oakhill Cemetery, Dugway Road.
