John Steeves

John Lewis Steeves, 93, our dear father, grandfather, brother and uncle passed away on Sunday December 19, 2010 at The Moncton Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Albert Mines, John was the son of the late Samuel and Mary (Hopper) Steeves. John became a partner in S. H. Steeves & Son Building Contractors at an early age and was responsible for the success of the company until his retirement. His retirement was short lived and he embarked on a new career as Maintenance Supervisor for District #2 School Board for ten years. Throughout his life, his workshop in the basement of his home at "321" was his happy place where he produced beautifully-crafted furniture, bowls, clocks, lawn swings, etc - you name it, he could make it! His wonderful creations from his workshop were given generously, often with a batch of his famous fudge. John was an active member of Highfield Baptist Church for over 75 years. In his younger years, he curled at MCA and continued to enjoy the game by watching it on TV. John leaves to mourn his daughter, Elaine (Allan) Smith of Sackville; his son, Eric (Janet) of Moncton; four granddaughters, Krista Bernard (Joel) of Vancouver, Heather Dacey (Mark) of Halifax, Amy Lavers (Matthew) of Truro, Jill Steeves of Moncton; six special great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Emily Bernard, Tye and Carter Dacey, Noah and Audra Lavers. Also left to mourn is John's sister, Willa Sealy, brother-in-law, Andrew Sealy (Peggy), brother-in-law, Jim Whiteley, all of Moncton; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, John was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Jean (Sealy) in 2008; his brother, Leutrelle and his sister, Margaret Whiteley.
