PICTOU/STELLARTON - Irene (Gill) Sampson, age 85 of the Shiretown Nursing Home, Pictou, formerly of Stellarton, passed away December 20, 2010 in the Shiretown Nursing Home.
Born in Forres, Scotland, she was a daughter of the late Jim and Dolhina (Murray) Gill.
Irene had been a resident of Shiretown Nursing Home the past five years. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church and also a member of the Nova Scotia War Brides Association. Irene had worked at the Valley View Villa in Riverton as a PCW until her retirement.
She is survived by sons, Allan (Yvonne) Henshaw, Little Harbour; Stephen (Marcia) Sampson, Texas; daughter, Suzanne Walsh, Stellarton; grandchildren: Michael Henshaw, David Henshaw, Katie Walsh and Justin Walsh; great-grandchildren: Cole Henshaw, Grace Henshaw and Megan Henshaw; sisters: Audrey (Malcolm) MacIntosh, Ontario; Katie (Bill) Proctor, Rita (Bill) MacGillivray, Averille MacIntosh; brothers: Jim Gill, Ronnie Gill and Sid Gill, all of Scotland.
She was predeceased by her husband, Neil Sampson; brothers, Jeak Gill, Graham Gill and a sister, Allison Gill.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. Memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church with Father Peter MacDonald officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Donations in her memory may be made to the IWK Hospital for Children or the Pictou County SPCA.
