Ruby Tizzard

79, of Dartmouth - It is with great sadness that we the family of Ruby Phyllis Tizzard announce her death as a result of cancer diagnosed in 2010. Born in St. John's, Nfld. she was married to the late Robert Maxwell Tizzard who passed away in 1987. She was the daughter of the late William and Emma Bishop. Ruby was predeceased by two brothers, Bill and Lloyd. She is survived by her sister Doris Cooney and several nieces and nephews in St. John's, Nfld. Her daughter Debbie lives in Moncton, N.B. with husband John and they have three children, Brian (Banff); Meghan (Oxford) and Kristy (Haileybury, Ont.) Ruby's son Robert (Bobby) lives in Dartmouth. They had a special bond and she relied on him as he was always there for her. Ruby worked for many years with the Dartmouth Community Homemakers Association. She retired at 67 years of age and leaves behind a legacy of caring for family and others. She was an active member of the Dartmouth Senior Center. She enjoyed lawn bowling, darts and lane bowling. She was a proud member of "The Golden Girls" some of whom have left this world (Olive and Nadie) leaving behind Brenda, Rose, Edna and Ada to carry on. Ruby loved life, especially being involved with her family, grandchildren and friends. She loved Debbie and John's dog, Rascal, who died in February 2009 and we know he is waiting for her with his leash or to curl up on the sofa to watch a good game of curling or hockey with Sid the Kid. Family thanks everyone for their kindness and support throughout this difficult year. Special thanks to all the Golden Girls and Zelda, Ed and Bev.
Donations would be appreciated to The Dartmouth Senior Center, Dartmouth General Hospital, the local SPCA or charity of choice. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 23 at 10 a.m. at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth, reception to follow. Private interment at a later date in Mt. Hermon Cemetery. To place a message of condolence please visit www.mattatallfuneralhome.com
