
George Ross
CANSO/GARDEN OF EDEN - On Monday, December 27, 2010, George Henry Ross of Canso, formerly of Garden of Eden and MacLellan's Brook, passed away peacefully at the Eastern Memorial Hospital in the town of Canso.
Born April 26, 1921 in The Marsh, Upper Barney's River to Catherine Ross, George was raised by his uncle Malcolm Ross and his wife Katheryn as their second child until the age of 11. It was then that his mother returned from the US and brought him to live with her and her husband, Findlay MacIntosh in the Garden of Eden. Although this was now home, George made frequent trips to visit his family in Barney's River. His fondest childhood memories were from there. George had served overseas in the Signal Corps. in the UK and Continental Europe.
He is survived by daughters, Linda (Ricky) Byard, Canso; Sandy (Trevor) Lees, MacLellan's Brook; grandchildren: Marion, Andy, Ronnie MacLennan and Jermaine Byard and Kenny and Josh Lees; several great-grandchildren; sisters: Hazel Clarke, Elkhart, Indiana; Kaye Bigney, Glen Ewan, Sask.; Edith Ball, Ottawa, ON; Mary Pace, New Glasgow, NS; brothers, Fred Ross, Stoney Creek, AB; John Ross, Hamilton, ON.
He was predeceased by his wife, Davina; brothers, Alfie and Harold; and sisters, Carol and Margaret.
His remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Blair Presbyterian Church, Garden of Eden with Rev. Calvin Crichton officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Eden Cemetery.
Donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society of Nova Scotia, or Children and Youth Services of Tearmann House.
