Colin Taylor

Colin Frederick Taylor resident of Bathurst NB, passed away suddenly on December 29, 2010 at the Miramichi Regional Hospital. Born on April 26, 1922 in Harpenden, England, he was the son of the late George Frederick and Mabel (Dyer) Taylor. He is survived by Anne, his wife of 42 years; daughter Laura Lynne Taylor of Amherst, NS; his son Brent and his wife Monique of Lower Coverdale NB; his son Clive and his wife Betty, of Bathurst, NB; grandchildren, Colin Lewin, Stephanie Taylor, and Valerie Graziani, great grandchildren, Connor Wilson and Sofia Graziani, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his only brother, Maurice. Colin first came to Canada as a member of the Royal Air Force, and as a Flight Lieutenant was responsible for the training of pilots on the Mosquito, Harvard, Oxford and Dakota, in many parts of Canada. After the end of war in Europe he was posted to the Far East, ending his military career in Indonesia, Burma and India. After the war he continued his studies at the Southwest Essex School of Engineering, graduating as a Mechanical Engineer. He chose to return to Canada to practise his profession first in Calgary, then Montreal and eventually at Northern Machine Works in Bathurst. He became very involved in community organizations. He was Past President of the Bathurst Rotary Club and a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship Award. As a valued member of the Bathurst Heritage Trust Commission, he was honored by them dedicating a room in his name. He was a life member of the Greater Bathurst Chamber of Commerce. He was
awarded the Commerative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, also on Monday from 9 AM until time of funeral at Elhatton Funeral Home, 187 St. George St., Bathurst. (www.elhatton.com). Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 3, 2011 at 11 AM from the Holy Family Church, 430 St. Peter Ave., Bathurst. Donations in memory of Colin may be made to a favourite charity.
