Ethel Shaner
SHANER - Mrs. Ethel Rosemarie (Henry), age 82 of Swift Current, passed away December 31, 2010, at the Swift Current Care Centre where she was a resident for the last five years. She was born in Helena, Montana, then the family moved to Stone, SK, to her grandparent's farm. She was the 2nd of 11 children. A creek ran through the property and we heard many stories of the sunshine on the water and the many adventures of Allen and Mom. Ethel moved to Maple Creek and worked for the telephone office later transferring to Swift Current. She met and married Ralph Shaner there. They married on August 12, 1950, three children were born to them, Lynn (Wayne) Regier, Cheri (Leonard) Rempel and Timmothy (Trudy) Shaner. Her grandchildren: Tricia (Wayne) Cormier - Tristan & Preston, Jason (Terra) Regier - Andrew, Luke & Sophie, Dean (Amanda) Regier, and Jillian (Derek) Thiessen. Jeffrey (Abeline) Rempel - Josiah, Jared & Aliyah, Janessa (Michael) Ljunggren - Erica, Annika, Brenden & Alayna, Julianne (Jeffery) Bowers - Tayler, Riley & Logan, Sheldon Janz - Grant & Zachariah. Ethel's main career was at the Swift Current Union Hospital where she presided over 2nd surgery as their ward clerk for 26 years before retiring. To say that her grandchildren were the joys of her life would be an understatement. Stories abounded about "birdies" and such, poems and play, songs about the moon and stars, cuddling and laughing. If they had a hearts desire she would do her best to help with it. This continued until they grew up, married and presented her with great grandchildren. She was a constant support in our lives and that it was her purpose and joy was evident. She was so loved and will be wholly missed by all. Heaven is all the more graced by her presence. She truly loved and served her Lord and Savior. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Parkside Memorial Funeral Chapel with John Regier officiating. The interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Memorial Funeral Home, Swift Current, and Saskatchewan.
