Elizabeth Theresa 'Bette' MacDougall, 79, St. Peter's, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011.
Born in North Sydney, April 21, 1931, Bette was the eldest daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine 'Cassie' (MacNeil) Mancini, St. Peter's. Bette was a talented artist, in her early years attended Mount Saint Vincent and graduated from Saint Frances Xavier University in 1952. She was a very proud member of the 'X' Alumni. After their marriage Bette and Bill stationed with the RCAF for 10 years, returned to Port Hawkesbury and later Baddeck where they had many wonderful friends. Bette enjoyed the last seven years in her hometown of St. Peter's being near her family.
She is survived by her children, Marty (Donna) MacDougall, Toronto, Cathy Conrad, Port Hawkesbury, Joey MacDougall, Sydney, Fonda (Parker) Stone, St. Peter's and Colin (Kathy) MacDougall, St. Peter's; sisters, Tula Gouthro, St. Peter's; Viola (Linus) Sampson, St. Peter's; Claire (Donald) Richard, McKinnon's Harbour and brother, Carlo (Donna) Mancini, Halifax and many nieces and nephews. Bette had a loving spot in her heart for her grandchildren, Kelly, Vicki, Crystal, Courtney and Devon Conrad; Stacey, Stephanie (Ryan) and Steven Stone; Kaitlin and Piper MacDougall; Hannah Simpson-MacDougall and Brooke Rose; great-grandchildren, Cassini, Sofia, Roman, Dakota, Justin, Hayden, Rayne and Mason.
She was predeceased by her husband, William J. 'Bill' MacDougall and her sister, Charlotte Mancini (age 18 months).
Visitation will take place in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, 26 Centennial St., St. Peter's, Friday, Jan. 7 from 2-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8 with Fr. Everett MacDow officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Michael's Cemetery, Baddeck.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pink Positive/Friends of Leona, cancer charity.
