HILLSIDE - Marian Henrietta McKean, age 98, Chance Harbour Road, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at home.
Born in Welsford, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Annabelle Baillie.
Marian and her husband Willis founded and operated a greenhouse business, being the largest rose growers in Atlantic Canada. They later opened a retail store, McKean's Flowers Ltd. in New Glasgow. She was a member of the First United Church, Trenton.
She is survived by son, William (Eleanor), Annapolis Valley; daughter-in-law, Judy McKean, New Glasgow; grandchildren: Robyn; Glenn; Pauline (Aurel); Suzanne (Tom); Michelle; great-grandchildren, Avery and Jenna.
She was predeceased by her husband, Willis; son, Don; daughter, Patricia Ann; great-grandson, Benjamin; brothers: Billy, Donnie and Alfred; sisters: Christine, Georgie, Rena and Florence.
Marian had great compassion for all living things caring for any animal that found its way to her doorstep. Every year she loved putting in her extensive vegetable garden which she generously shared with her family and friends. Marian's sharp sense of humour and quick wit was ever present, never missing a beat.
There will be no visitation by request. A public graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Hillside Cemetery with Rev. Dr. Ken MacLeod officiating. After the service, a gathering will be held at the First United Church, High Street, Trenton, to celebrate Marian's extraordinary life.
Donations in her memory may be made to the S.P.C.A.
