SHANNON - Mary Francis Shannon, age 83 yrs. of Hazlet, SK passed away on January 3, 2011 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, in Swift Current, SK. The funeral service was held a 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 7, 2011 from the Hazlet Community Hall, in Hazlet, SK, with Carola Anderson officiating. Eulogies were presented by her children. The organist was Terri-Lou Bailey and special music was presented by Fern Bang,and Roderick English and Special Poem by Raylene Nelson. The ushers were Garnet Anderson and Gary Pederson. The pallbearers were: Brad Chisholm, Donnie Chisholm, Shawn Quintin, Tyler Harris, Trent Harris and Jerrid Smith. The honorary pallbearers were "All who touched her life". The interment service will take place at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK at a later date. Francis is survived by her loving husband of 61 years: Don Shannon; son Wayne (Heather) Shannon & grandson Travis (Jessica Gilchrest); daughters: Marilyn (Don)Chisholm, Bonnie Piecharki, Brad (Candance) Cooper, Beau, Donnie (Kim) Kardash, Hayden, Taylor, Lynn (Lawerence) Quintin, Shannon (Kevin) Sakawich, Angela (Leon) Laventure, Alexander, Shawn (Jennifer MacQuarrie) Donna Gay (Dale) Nelson, Tara-Lynn (Kevin Cody), Raylene (Peter Tomkinson), Amber (Christian Cyr), Kane, Kingston, Cindy (Ian)Harris, Tyler (Lisa), Hayley, Rylee, Trent (Candice), Avery, Trinity, Jody Lee (Jody) Smith, Jerrid, Jayden, Jayce. She was predeceased by her parents: Cabel & Annie English. Brothers: James (Ida English), C.B. (Betty English); brother-in-laws: Tom Mellor & Mike Parson; mother-in-law & father-in-law Bernice & Oscar Shannon; brothers-in-law Stan Yake, Ron Thoreson; sister-in-law Iona Thoreson. Francis was born July 23, 1927 in Rocky Mount, Virginia, U.S.A. She came by train with her family when she was 2 years old. And they settled in the Verlo District. She attended school in a one room schoolhouse at Delta and then in Gull Lake, SK. She was united in marriage to Don Shannon on December 10, 1949 in Edson, Alberta and she became a mother and homemaker. She was a member of the U.C.W. of the United Church, and the ladies bridge club and helped with knitting and sewing in 4-H. She enjoyed curling, playing ball with the Hazlet Hornets, she loved cooking, sewing, playing bingo, bridge, whist, crib, reading her numerous cookbooks, and cooking magazines. She loved camping at Cypress Hills Park, watching curling and baseball. She loved getting visits from her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and friends. She was a very special woman who was loved by many. She was such a caring & loving devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who will be deeply missed and forever remembered in our hearts. She is now resting peacefully in the arms of Jesus. Our family would like to thank the Swift Current nurses that gave such tender care to our mom, and the excellent care she received by her home care staff. Donations in her memory to the Hazlet Skating and Curling rink and or to the Cabri Seniors Hall, would be appreciated by the family. Culham/Bowers Funeral Home were entrusted with the arrangements.
