NIXON, Thelma Luella, May 30, 1922 - January 4, 2011. It is with heavy and saddened hearts that the family of Thelma Nixon bid farewell to her as she passed from this phase of her life to her eternal life with her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 4th at Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Although we know that she is no longer with us we are comforted in knowing that she is in a better place where she will experience no pain and that she is now rejoicing with her beloved husband, Russell and cherished daughter, Sharon. Thelma was the eldest daughter of the late John and Marie (Spur) Daniels and was born on May 30, 1922 in Nictaux South. Thelma lived all of her life in the area. The most important things in her life in her later years were her sons and their wives, her grandchildren and their spouses and most recently her great grandchildren who referred to her as "Great Cookie Nannie". Thelma was a member of the Nictaux Baptist Church and served not only on a number of Church Committees but in her earlier years as a Sunday School Teacher. She was a charter member of the Nictaux Baptist Friendly Club and was a Dominion Life Member of the Atlantic Baptist Women. Besides her parents Thelma is predeceased by her husband of fifty (50) years, Russell and their daughter Sharon. She is survived by her sons Russell Dan (Gloria), Stoney Creek, NB; Philip (Mariette), Hammonds Plains and Shirley (Linda), Guysborough. Grandchildren Scott (Merriam), Patti (Kevin) Kendrick, Cory (Dee), Colleen (Kevin) Carey, Danielle, Lianne, Jason (Trina), Troy and Karen Lynn (Ryan) Matheson. She is also survived by great-grand children; Abby, Hailey, Logan, Liam, Gwyneth, Eleanora, Oliver, Dacia, Rylan, Hayden and Pyper as well as her only sister Dorothy Hatt and many nieces and nephews. Visitation was held Friday, January 7, 2011 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main Street, 902(825-3448). A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 8th in the Nictaux Baptist Church, Rev. Bill McLeod and Rev. Ron Baxter officiated. Interment will be in the Nictaux Cemetery, followed by a reception in the Christian Family Center. By request, family flowers only. Donations in memory may be made to the Nictaux Baptist Church, Canadian Diabetes Association or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia. The Family wish to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Paul MacLean for his dedicated medical care he provided over the years and especially during the last four years when she was confined to home. Many thanks to the Home Care Workers who attended to her needs. We will be forever grateful for the compassionate care that has been provided by Darlene Cross, which allowed her to remain in her own home.
