John Stephen MacNeil, 84 of Grass Cove, Victoria County, N.S., died Jan. 12, 2011 at the Victoria County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Grass Cove, he was the son of the late James S. and Mary (MacInnis) MacNeil. He was a member of St. Columba parish, Iona. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving in Canada and Europe with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders.
John was a former employee of the North Victoria School Board and a member of the Grand Iona Legion, Branch 124.
He is survived by two brothers, Roddie and Joe (Mary), Grass Cove; three sisters, Peggy (Frank Vitelli), Toronto, Ann Booth, Toronto, Isabel (Allen Dixon), Calgary and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Sylvester.
Keeping with John's wishes, there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place under the direction and care of MacAskill Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011 at St. Columba Church, Iona with Rev. Paul Abbass officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery.
