Wilhelmina was born April 11, 1918, in Amersfoort, Netherlands, to Gerarda and Gijsbertus Brandsen, the eighth of 11 siblings.
On March 3, 1943, during the Second World War, she married Marinus (Martin) Edelenbos in Amersfoort and enjoyed a 43-year marriage with him until his passing in 1986.

Wilhelmina 'Mia' enjoyed sports including handball as a young girl, knitting and sewing, playing cards, travelling and the outdoors.
She endured the war including a period during which her husband was a prisoner of war and they managed to start a family at a time of wartime famine in the Netherlands. She often recalled with humour the happy times she shared with her siblings.
She leaves behind her dear younger sister, Riek Kreijne, Amersfoort, Netherlands; three sons, Ben, Sydney, Gerard, Belle Ewart, Ont., and Martin, Dockyard, Bermuda; five grandchildren, Martin, Carol, Glen, Tanya and Sean; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
