Phyllis Letcher, age 73, of Amherst passed away peacefully at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Saturday, January 23, 2011.
Born at Amherst Shore, NS, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Ruth (Porteous) Turney.
A secretary, Phyllis worked at Bluebird Co. Ltd., Commercial Credit and the Interprovincial School for the Hearing Impaired, where she was employed for over 20 years. She was a member of the Lorneville United Church. Phyllis was an avid card player and loved spending time in her garden.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Heather Lee (Michael) Payette, Edmonton, AB; granddaughter Madison Payette; a sister, Jean (Gerald) Smith, Truro, NS, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by first husband Leon Ward, her second husband Lorne Letcher, and a brother, Donald Turney.
Cremation has taken place under the care of the Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, NS (902-667-8777). A memorial service will be held at the Lorneville United Church, on January 28, 2011 at 2 pm, immediately followed by a time of tea and fellowship. Burial will take place in the Lorneville United Church Cemetery in the summer.
