Edith Ibbotson

The death of Edith Marguerite (Fairweather) Ibbotson, of Saint John, NB, occurred on January 26, 2011, at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born July 21, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Helen (Warneford) Fairweather of Hampton. Edith enjoyed reading, gardening, and loved her family and pets. In her early years Edith taught school in the Saint John area, before moving to Montreal, QC and Parry Sound, ON where she worked in the office at munition plants during WWII. Married to her late husband, Bill Ibbotson in 1947 and settling in Saint John in 1957, she worked at MRA's, and Zellers, before retiring in 1982. Edith is survived by four daughters, Catholine Chase (Cordon) and Margaret Gail Rhains Welles, AB, Lora Howe (Eldon), Hoyt, and Georgie Robertson (Terry), NB; one sister, Kathryn "Kitty" Harriott (Lennox), Rothesay; five grandchildren, Leagh and Curt Chase, Jacqueline Enders, Thomas Aubin, Susan Condran; seven great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her husband's family: Marjorie and Bob Dunlop, Charles and Connie Craven and Ruth Craven. Edith was predeceased by her husband Bill, infant son, Donald and two sisters, Patricia Myers and Mary Loughery, and their husbands Howard and Ralph.
Resting at Reid's Funeral Home, 1063 Main Street, Hampton, with visitation on Sunday from 2 to 5, Edith's remains have been cremated and will be interred at a later date. The funeral will be held 2:00pm, Monday, January 31, 2011 at St. Paul's Anglican Church, Hampton with a reception to follow in the church hall.
