FLORENCE JUNE THOMPSON - Passed away peacefully on June 25, 2009 at the Riverview Health Care Facility in Winnipeg, MB.

Florence (Flo) Button was born June 20, 1924 in Carnduff, SK to James Henry Button and Susan Anne Nichols. She was the fourth child in a family of nine. In 1933 the family moved to Prince Albert, SK and then in 1940 to Snowdon, SK. It was while working in a local café in Nipawin that Flo met her first husband Chester Louis Borley. In 1943 Flo moved to Toronto where she worked in a munitions factory doing her part for the war effort.

On August 1st, 1945 Flo and Chet were married in Toronto, ON where they resided after WW II. During this time their first son, Blaine, was born. In 1947 the family moved back to the Nipawin district to farm and during this time their second son, Curtis, was born. In 1952 the family moved to Flin Flon, MB. While in Flin Flon, Flo lead a very active life working at the W B Hardware, taking part in a bowling league, and playing piano in an old time band that provided entertainment for weddings, socials and other events. In July, 1971 Flo and Chet returned to Nipawin where they owned and operated a small corner store until Chet passed away in 1972. Shortly after, Flo moved to Prince Albert to be closer to her brothers and sisters and their families.

On February 8, 1980, Flo married Hugh Llewellyn Thompson in Prince Albert, SK. Again, Flo kept very active singing with the Sweet Adalines and the Legionnaire singers. She continued to bowl and also took up golfing. She and Hugh loved to travel. Hawaii was one of Flo’s favourite destinations. Together she and Hugh attended many dealership conventions and 426 Squadron Reunions. They also enjoyed spending winters at their place in Weslaco, Texas until Hugh passed away in July, 1999.

In April, 2008, Flo was diagnosed with cancer and in October, 2008 she moved to Winnipeg to live with her son Curt and his wife, Wanda, where she resided until her passing.

Flo loved music and enjoyed playing the piano. In her younger years she also played the accordion and the guitar. In her own words,” She loved growing up on the farm and playing softball”. She looked forward to the annual family reunions where she could get together with her brothers and sisters who also loved to play and sing.

Flo is predeceased by her husbands Chester Borley and Hugh Thompson, parents, James and Susan Button, sister Ruby Borley, brothers Clarence, Wilbur, James and Roy Button.

She is survived and will be greatly missed by her sons Blaine (Wanda) and Curt (Wanda), brother, Len (Gwen) Button, sisters Annetta Martin, and Eileen (Glen) Brown, stepson Barry Thompson, stepdaughter Carol McCoy, her grandchildren and great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held In Prince Albert, SK at the Calvary United Church, 114 25th St East, Saturday July 25th, 2009 at 2:00 pm.
