Kathleen Odessa "Kaye" Smith - 82, formerly of Port Williams, Kings County, passed away Thursday, January 27, 2011 in the Wolfville Nursing Home. Born in Margaretsville, Annapolis County, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Beatrice Rena (Hirtle) Patterson. She was a bookkeeper and accountant by trade and together with her late husband, operated a bed and breakfast in New Minas. She enjoyed her community, spending time with family and friends, camping and playing cards. She was a member of the Port Williams United Baptist Church and acted as treasurer for many years. In recent years she became an active member of her community at the Wolfville Nursing Home, sitting on committees and was a former chair of the Resident's Council. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Harry; a sister, Ella DeWolfe; six brothers, Arthur, Leland, Harold, George, Archie and Leslie. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the White Family Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Kentville. There will be no visitation, by request. The funeral service followed by a reception will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 5, 2011 in the Port Williams United Baptist Church, Reverend David Ogilvie officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in the Aylesford Union Cemetery. Family flowers only, by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Port Williams United Baptist Church.
