Jeanette Campbell, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Jan. 31, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Formerly of Whitney Pier, Jeanette was the daughter of the late John Ossie McNeil and Jane (O'Handley) McNeil.
Jeanette was employed at CFB Sydney, bringing smiles to many of the service employees with her wit and sense of humour.
Her positive outlook on life was passed on to her family and friends. During the past weeks dealing with her illness she continued to enjoy a laugh with her family and hospital staff and maintained a wonderful attitude.
Jeanette was well informed; she enjoyed reading, doing her crosswords, music and was an avid sports fan. She loved club with the girls, the 'Badgers' and her bowling league.
Jeanette was an excellent cook and baker and her children were her biggest fans. The most important part of Jeanette's life was her family and she dedicated her life to always being there for them.
Jeanette moved from Whitney Pier to Victoria Mines when she married her husband Russell Campbell. She loved sitting by her window watching the many different birds that spent time at the feeder. She knew every type that visited.
Jeanette is survived by her children, Colin (Marilyn), South Bar, Karen, Ontario, Nora, Edmonton, Teresa, Red Deer, Dan (Willena), New Waterford; granddaughters, Jamie Campbell, Nicole Campbell, Rebecca Campbell and grandson, Erik Campbell; great-granddaughter, Olivia Campbell. Jeanette is also survived by many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Jeanette was predeceased by her husband, Russell in April 2010, brother, Eddie McNeil, Boston, and sister, Nora Del Grosso, Boston.
Visitation will be Thursday, Feb. 3 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Friday, Feb. 4 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Alphonsus Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at St. Leonard's parish hall, Convent Street, New Waterford.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
A special thanks to the staff at Glace Bay Hospital, 4 North and 3 East, for taking such wonderful care of our mother.
