Blanche Elizabeth Jess - 85, Port Williams, passed away peacefully at St. Martha's Regional Hospital, Antigonish on Friday January 28th, 2011. Born in Canning, Kings Co., November 20th, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Cleveland and Ethel (Manuel) Porter. She graduated from Canning High School and Mack Business College. Blanche worked for the N.S. Apple Marketing Board, Kentville, and for C & M Ells Ltd., Port Williams. She was a member of the Port Williams United Baptist Church, a life member of the Baptist Women's Missionary Auxiliary and an active member of Loyal Workers. Surviving are sons, James, Port Williams and Brian, Killaloe, Ontario; daughters, Judith Banks and husband, Richard, Prince George, B.C.; Elizabeth MacDonald and husband, Brian of Antigonish and Susan Adams and husband, Randy, Kamloops, B.C. She is also survived by her sister, Helen Andrew and husband, Jack, Kelowna, B.C.; sister-in-law, Shirley Porter, Lawrencetown; brother-in-law, Eric Morine, Middleton; 13 special grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren; aunt, Peggy Manuel, Dartmouth; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special family friend, Joann Day. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 57 years, Lawrence Annand Jess; their stillborn son; sister, Jewel Morine; brother, Winfred Porter; sisters-in-law, Mary Jess Durno and Leila Wegener (Herman); brothers-in-law, Philip Jess (Flo) and Charles Lockhart. Visitation was held from 7-9 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2011 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. The funeral service, followed by a reception, was held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2011 in the Port Williams United Baptist Church, Reverend David Ogilvie and Reverend Elizabeth Johnson officiated. Burial took place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Donations to the Port Williams United Baptist Church would be appreciated, if desired.
