David William Henderson of Red Deer, Alta., passed away peacefully at the Red Deer Regional Hospital on Feb. 6, 2011, at the age of 81 years.
David will be sadly missed by his children, Dawn (Mike) Upham of Summerside, P.E.I., Jimmy (Kim) Henderson of Red Deer, Alta., Ivor (Anne) Henderson of Red Deer, Alta., Sherry (Larry) Darling of Penhold, Alta., Carol (Rus) Pierce of Edmonton, Alta., and Kim (Lyle) Langmaid of Sylvan Lake, Alta. Also left to cherish their memories of David are his grandchildren, Ben, David (Elise), Tina, Kevin (Elizabeth), Samantha, Lindsey, Amanda (Melvin), Melissa and Stephen; great-grandchildren, Haley, Kayla, Hailey, Natalie, Madison and another due in July; and his niece, Annie (Brent) and their three children, Daniel, Kim and Leslie.
David was predeceased by his loving wife, Yvonne and nine sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his sister, Isabel Macleod; sisters-in-law, Mary Herbert and June Hook and brother-in-law, Ivor Dalton, all of Ontario. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends in Nova Scotia, Ontario, British Columbia and Alberta.
David served in the RCAF (and later the CF) as an armourer for 27 years. He was posted all over Canada as well as Germany and France. When he retired for the first time, he renovated his house before returning to the work force six months later. He worked in security for another 15 years and retired for the second time. David made the most of the past 17 years, travelling off the beaten path in Alberta and British Columbia, building furniture for his children, growing vegetables in his garden and being a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and great uncle to his large family.
A memorial service for the late David Henderson will be held Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of the Red Deer Funeral Home, 6150-67 St., Red Deer, Alta.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a memorial donation for the purchase of a memorial bench in David's name may contact Sherry Darling, RR#1, Penhold, Alta., T0M 1R0 or make a donation to the charity of one's choice.
