Jeremiah 'Jerry Barry

Born In: Sydney Mines, Nova Scotia, Canada

Passed in: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: February 10th, 2011

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Jeremiah ‘Jerry’ Barry on Feb. 10, 2011, at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax, with his loving family at his side.
Born in Sydney Mines, he was the son of Mary (Handley) Barry and the late Alex Barry.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception parish, Sydney Mines.
Jerry is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 40 years, Carolyn (Gerrow); his children, of whom he was so proud, Michelle (Keith) Jardine, Jeniene (Jackie) Ford, Jocelyn Barry (Bill) and Jeremiah Barry (Wendy); his nine grandchildren, who were the love and joy of his life, Cassie, Morgan, Madison, Jackson, Brody, Kyle, Natalie, Hannah and Brett. Jerry cherished every moment spent with them from family gatherings or camping with him and Nanny or sleeping over at Papa’s house, which they all loved to do.
He is also survived by his mother, Mary Barry; his brothers, Alex (Colleen), Dennis (Debbie), Jimmy (Cindy), Joey and Billy; his sisters, Margie (Ed) Bailey, Catherine (Steve) Romard, Colleen (Paul) Sheffield and Edna (Glenn) Burton. Also surviving are his brothers-in-law, Harry (Glenda) and Brian (Jean) Gerrow.
Besides his father, he was predeceased by his brothers, Paul, Billy, Jimmy and his sister, Rebecca.
Jerry was employed as a mechanic with Gooding’s Garage and at the Devco wash plant for many years until his retirement. He was an avid bowler and dart player, having played in many tournaments and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion branch 83, Florence. His greatest joy was listening to music and making tapes for his friends.
A great friend to all who knew him, his warm smile will be missed by all, including his camping family at Englishtown. Jerry was quite a prankster, tormenting his children, friends and campers, anything to get a laugh. He enjoyed every minute of it and loved them all.
Visitation today (Saturday), 7-9 p.m. and Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Francis Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Church with Fr. J.J. MacDonald officiating.
Donations may be made to the N.S. Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Cancer Comfort Fund or a charity of choice.
Expressions of sympathy may be sent to d.francis@ns.sympatico.ca.
