Douglas Drennen

Mr. Douglas Drennan (70) died unexpectedly but peacefully at Hamilton General Hospital of a stroke on February 20, 2011. Survived by his wife of 40 years, Dora (Gardner), his sons Robert and wife Cathy of Mississauga and Brian of Fenwick and much loved grandsons, Samuel and Lucas. Also survived by sister Audrey and husband Norman Lecuyer of Ottawa, brothers James and wife Joan of British Columbia and Bruce of St. Catharines, sisters-in-law Enid Dowling of Saskatchewan, Patricia Gardner of New Brunswick and brother-in-law David Gardner and wife Donna of Fonthill and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Doug was born in Sault Ste. Marie and grew up in Merritton. He attended St. Catharines Collegiate, Hamilton Institute of Technology and Brock University. After a short time with Allen-Bradley he entered teaching and taught at E.L. Crossley for 6 years and St. Catharines Collegiate for 24 years, retiring in 1996. Doug loved the outdoors, from gardening to skiing to camping. He enjoyed many years as a Scout leader with trips to Algonquin. He was an unselfish man who enjoyed life right to the end.
The Memorial Service will be conducted at Fonthill United Church, 42 Church Hill, Fonthill at 11:00am. on Friday, February 25, 2011 with visitation one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to Fonthill United Church. Online condolences may be forwarded through www.pedlarfuneralhome.ca
