Verboom, Cornelis “Cees” - 80, Middle Musquodoboit, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2011 with his family at his side. Cornelis was born in Moordrecht The Netherlands on September 30, 1930. He and his wife, Cornelia “Cora”, immigrated to Canada in 1955. They settled in Middle Musquodoboit where they enjoyed success in dairy farming. In recent years, Cees worked with his son and grandson in Verboom Grinders and Nova Tree.
Cees was active in the dairy and farming industries, as well as the community. He served on numerous boards and councils over the years including Milk Nova Scotia, Farmers Dairy, Musquodoboit Valley Co-op and Middleton United Church. He loved to sing and spent many happy hours making beautiful music with the church choir, River Country Choir and the Braeside singing group.
He is survived by his wife, the former Cornelia “Cora” van Dieren; his four children and their spouses, Jacob “Jim” (Karen); Peggy (David) Frizzell; Marian Verboom Doucette (Eric Doucette); Paul (Melanie); his 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, Luke (Lindsay) Verboom, and their family, Coleman, Zachary, Dean, Anthony; Sarah Verboom and husband Phil Callaghan; Hannah Verboom-Demers and husband Matt, and their son Lucas; Andy Verboom (Emily); Danny Doucette; Rachel Doucette (Greg); Cora Doucette; Natalie Doucette; Brenna Doucette; Connor Verboom; Parker Verboom; brothers, Adrianus “Andy” (Harmina “Minie”); Joe; sisters, Truus Verboom, Adrie (Gerrit) van Ek, Riet (Arie) Reym, Annie Verboom (Gerard). He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Maria (den Hoed) Verboom; four brothers, all of The Netherlands.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held Friday, February 25 at 2 p.m. in Middleton United Church, Middle Musquodoboit, Rev. Annika Sangster officiating. Family will receive friends downstairs for a reception following the service. Burial will be held at a later date in Pioneer Cemetery, Middle Musquodoboit. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Middleton United Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
