John Sklar 1915 - 2011 John Sklar passed away peacefully on February 24, 2011 at the age of 95 years. John was born on the family homestead in Strong Pine Saskatchewan in 1915. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Loretta Sklar, son, Brian (Trudy); daughters, Beverly (Steve Thackray) Sklar, Anita (Dale) Despins; grandchildren, Aaron (Lindsey) Sklar, Damon (Adrienne) Sklar, Jennifer Harrison, Alyssa (Rob Kostyk) Despins, Amy (Matt Ward) Despins, great grandchildren Jordan Harrison and Talan Matthew Ward, nephew Gordon (Geraldine) Sklar and family, and Lesia (Marvin) Sachkowski and family. He was predeceased by his parents Steven and Malanka, step-mother Pauline, brother William, two infant brothers James and James, sisters Mary, Helen, and Pauline and one niece Amelia (Frank) Will. John was a survivor of tuberculosis, having spent six years in the Prince Albert Sanatorium from the age of 17 to 23. He married Loretta Craig on June 18th, 1945 at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Prince Albert. The couple settled in Prince Albert and raised three children. John was employed at the Avenue Hotel and Ralph Miller Men’s Wear before taking a position at the Northern Saskatchewan Co-op Stockyards, where he was secretary/treasurer until his retirement. He was also active in the Credit Union movement, serving as President of the Prince Albert Credit Union for 18 years, during which time it grew from a small local operation to one of the largest in the province, with branches in Meath Park, Smeaton, LaRonge, Domremy and Wakaw. Following his retirement, he and his wife relocated to Saskatoon, where they have resided for the past 15 years. The family wishes to thank the management and staff of Extendicare for the excellent care provided to John over the past two and a half years. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 4, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church, 114 Kingsmere Place, Saskatoon, SK Interment of Ashes to follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
