R.W. "Tony" Wonnacott died peacefully on March 1, 2011 after a long and interesting life.

Born August 25th, 1911 in Halifax, he lived through the Halifax Explosion of 1917 and joined the RCMP in 1931. He was instrumental in the development of a fingerprint section for forensic identification and served in Ottawa, Winnipeg, Kamloops and Toronto, retiring as Officer Commanding (Assistant Commissioner) "K" Division (Alberta) in 1967. Leading the Security Services for the BC Tour by Her Majesty the Queen and Prince Philip in 1958 was one of his many outstanding assignments. Following retirement, he was Chairman of the Board of Referees (HRDC) for Unemployment Insurance in Kamloops B.C. until moving to Medicine Hat in 2004.

Predeceased by his wife Olwen in 1991, he leaves many good stories for his daughter Jane (Dr. Sandy) of Medicine Hat, grandsons Dr. Bruce (Jodi) of Sugar Land, Texas and Douglas (Amanda) of Calgary. It is too bad he won't get to know his great grandchildren, Norah and Noelle of Texas and Nelson and Lauren of Calgary. The families appreciate the kindness of the staff at Chinook Village and the long time dedication of Dr. S. Ciubotaru.

At Tony's request, there will be no formal service.
He will be interred in the RCMP Cemetery in Regina at a later date.

Donations in his memory may be made to S.P.C.A. - 55 Southwest Drive SW, Medicine Hat, AB T1A 8E8. To e-mail an expression of sympathy, please direct it to: pattfh@telusplanet.net subject heading: Ralph Wonnacott, or you may visit
