Clarence was known at various times in different stages of his life as Jip, Shakey and Mac.
Born Dec. 19, 1937, in Dominion, Jip, as he was known then, grew up in a small coal mining town and became a miner for a short period of his life. He then joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served his country for 30 years sailing around the world before he retired as a chief petty officer. During his Navy years he was known to everyone as Shakey. He then worked for the British Columbia Liquor Board and was known to all as Mac. When he finally retired he spent many years around the Fraser River talking to everyone he met and enjoying his retirement years. He most especially loved the time he spent with his grandchildren; they always knew he could be counted on for candy, ice cream and a bottle of pop, not to mention a toonie now and then. Clarence was forever a ‘Cape Bretoner’ and never forgot his roots and the people he knew when he was growing up. His was a life well lived and he will be greatly missed by many people from various walks of life.
