
Thomas "Tom" Murphy
NEW GLASGOW – Thomas “Tom” Smith Murphy, 89 of Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow, formerly of Little Harbour Rd., passed away March 8, 2011 in the Glen Haven Manor.
Born in Thorburn he was the son of the late Pius and Rose (Smith) Murphy.
He was a member of the former St. Gregory’s Roman Catholic Church in New Glasgow and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 34 New Glasgow. Tom was a veteran of WWII. He enjoyed playing crib and dancing. He had been employed as an inspector with the former Trenton Works, a police officer with the New Glasgow Police Department, former chief of the Trenton Police Department as well as a commissionaire at the former Scott Paper for a number of years.
He is survived by daughter, Brenda (John) Brown, MacLellan’s Brook; sons: Bernie (Pat), Westville; Brian (Brenda), Lourdes; Barry, Beryl (Barb), both of New Glasgow; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Murdock, New Glasgow; a brother, Brian (Marie), Toronto; daughter-in-law, Connie, MacLellan’s Brook; sister-in-law, Evelyn, Boston.
He was predeceased by his wife the former Raphaela “Dick” MacDonald; sons, Brenton and Blaine; brothers, Alex and James.
His remains will rest in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow, for visiting from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday from St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Thorburn with Father Colin MacKinnon presiding. Burial will take place in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Thorburn at a later date.
