O’Connell, Elizabeth Helen “Betty” – 75, Otterbrook, passed away suddenly but peacefully, surrounded by her family on Tuesday, March 8, 2011 in Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro.
Born in Eastville, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Aileen (Crockett) MacKay. As a farmer’s wife for 40 years, Betty was a well-rounded country woman. Since 1962, she was an active UCW member, an avid former 4-H leader, and a member of the former E.B. Circle. Besides her family, Betty enjoyed spending time with her friends at the weekly card parties and community dances.
Surviving are her son, Randy (Shelley) and their children, Rebecca, Katelyn and Christine, Otterbrook; son, Peter (Trudi) and their children, Jamie and Beth, Halfway Brook; chosen grandson, Jeffrey Bowman, Truro; brother, Royce (Vivian) MacKay, Lindsay, Ont.; sister, Carol (Philip) Snow, Bridgewater; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Donald; special friend, Henry Ferguson.
Visitation will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday, and funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, both in Middle Stewiacke United Church, Rev. Larry Harrison officiating. Spring burial will be in Middle Stewiacke Cemetery. Family will meet friends for a reception downstairs in the church following the service. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to Colchester-East Hants Palliative Care.
