Elsie Smith
The death of Elsie Louise Smith, 87, of Amherst, occurred at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on Sunday, March 20, 2011. Born in Shinimicas, she was a daughter of the late Noel and Laura (Davis) Black.
Elsie was a lifetime member of the Y's Manettes. She belonged to the 50+ Club and Senior's Bowling. She was an avid quilter and knitter and had donated many items to the Hospital Gift Shop and to family members as well.
She will be sadly missed by her husband of 69 years, Leon; two daughters, Mary Lou Hunter of New Glasgow and Lillian McGarvey of Amherst; four sons, David (Barbara) of Port Perry, ON, Daniel (Dorothy) of Truemanville, Randall (Donna) of Enfield and Rodney (Deborah) of Herring Cove; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren; three sisters, Florence, Jean, and Betty and a brother, Archie.
Besides her parents, Elsie was predeceased by two brothers, Gordon and Eldon as well as three sisters, Jewel, Sybil and Eleanor.
At Elsie's request, there is to be no visitation. The remains have been cremated under the care and supervision of Furlong~Jones Funeral Home, Amherst (667-8777). A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
