It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother; Pearl Stevens, 81, of Glace Bay. Pearl passed away Friday, March 25, 2011, at the Glace Bay Hospital.
Born in Neil’s Harbour, she was the daughter of the late James and Margaret (Buffet) Seymour.
Pearl was a very active member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. She was a former employee of Chernin’s Men's Wear and Lingan Golf Club. She was also an employee of the Glace Bay Hospital retiring after many years of service in the Dietary Department. She loved her family and loved to spend time with them. She enjoyed playing cards. She loved to cook and bake. Pearl always had her homemade cookies on hand for the many children in the neighbourhood. Her teapot was always on. Pearl was an avid Toronto Blue Jay fan.
Pearl will be sadly missed by her loving children, Linda (Doug Ferguson), Port Dover, Ont., Eddy (Dawn MacLellan), Albert Bridge; brothers, Lorne (Evelyn) Seymour, Glace Bay; and sister, Lena (Michael) Young, Glace Bay; cherished grandchildren, Bradley, Natalie, Lesley, Warren, Bailey; great-grandchildren, Kaityn, Emily, Temeka, Jack, Evelyn and Lachlan. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Pearl was predeceased by her loving husband, Edison Lesley Stevens (2008), sisters, Mary Hussey and Hazel Claire.
Visitation for Pearl will be held 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2011, in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011, at St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay, with Rev. Judi Phillips officiating. A luncheon will follow in the church hall, all are welcome. Interment will be in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
