
Robert Brian Guthrie
Passed on: March 25th, 2011
Aged 64, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2011, at the Dr. Miller Centre in St. John’s, Newfoundland, surrounded by his wife and children. His death followed a yearlong struggle with brain cancer.
Robert was predeceased by his father, Kenneth Guthrie, as well as several aunts and uncles. He leaves behind his wife of 35 years, Jane Ogilvie, and 3 children - Kevin, Graeme and Ellen Guthrie. He is also survived by his mother Malvina Guthrie, sister Christina Guthrie, brother Kenny Guthrie, nieces Sara, Jane and Susan Ehrhardt as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Born in Montreal, Robert lived much of his adult life in Fredericton, New Brunswick. He studied Architecture at TUNS ( Dalhousie University) and University of Kansas and practiced in several Atlantic cities, becoming a member of The Royal Architectural Institute of Canada in 1985. In 2009, Robert accepted a position as assistant director for Facilities Management at Memorial University in St. John's, in charge of capital projects.
Robert raced cars from age 17 till 62, contributing much to motor sport in the Atlantic Region. He was also an avid curler, downhill skier and folk musician.
There will be a Celebration of Robert's Life held at the Junior Common Room of Gushue Hall on the Memorial University campus (St. John's) from 4 - 6 pm, Thursday, March 31.
The following week, April 6, there will be a funeral service for Robert at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church on Charlotte Street in Fredericton, NB, at 2 o’clock, reception to follow.
